PRACTICAL FILM MAKING RSEARCH

Below are music videos I found visually interesting in terms of editing, film making and concept.

Architects - Even if You Win You're Still a Rat

I like the way this music video combines the use of found footage with the beat of the audio, each image/clip seems to move in time with the song. Its an interesting and effective use of preexisting film and image.

The Streets - Has it come to This

I like how this music video displays the different camera angles on the same screen as a tool to explore the different perspectives for the audience.

Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams

This is one of my favourite music videos, I like how the film uses transitional effects in order to warp perceptions and create optical illusions for the viewer.

Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc

Gorillaz are arguably one of the greatest music video creators of their generation. The band rely heavily on the idea of them being a 'virtual band', their animated music videos becoming part of the musical experience for their fans.

CONCEPTUAL RESEARCH

Below are films of the same theme of which I want to create exploring voguing, club kids and ballroom drag.

Walk! from Nicolas Jenkins on Vimeo.

I love how this video captures the energy of the catwalk, cutting between the most exciting points of each dancer to create a film as upbeat and fast pace as the dance itself. The video also features interviews from modern day 'voguers' commenting on what their idea of voguing is, adding context to the meaning of the dance.

The Show Must Go On: The Story of Snookie Lanore from Zachary Kussin on Vimeo.

Reading Queer presents Paris Is Still Burning with Justin Phillip Reed @ The Olympia from Reading Queer on Vimeo.

Justin Phillip Reed discusses the importance of the ballroom drag community, it is important while studying this subject to consider the emotional importance the scene still has for our counterparts within the community. It is also important to remember although we do have progress, this progress is not necessarily transferable to less privileged members of our community, and how we still need to fight for them.
